A US man is thanking the vets who saved his dogs’ life with a whopping $8.9 m Super Bowl ad.

Dog owner David MacNeil was told at the end of last year that his beloved pet only had one month to live.

Seven-year-old Scout was diagnosed with aggressive liver cancer and a tumour on his heart. Vets said the much-loved pooch only had a one percent chance of survival.

Thanks to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Scout immediately underwent chemotherapy and radiation, and his future started to a bit brighter.

One month later, Scout’s tumour had decreased in size by 78 per cent.

Prior to treatment, the tumour had reached an enormous 90 percent capacity, and today the tumour has almost disappeared.

To thank the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mr MacNeil created a 30-second advertisement called “Lucky Dog” which shares Scout’s recovery journey.

The ad shows Scout playing on the beach before walking down the halls of the veterinary clinic.

Mr MacNeil said in a statement that he created the ad to help raise money for the “incredible research and innovative treatments happening at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.”

The video concludes by asking viewers to donate via Mr MacNeil’s company website. “Their research has the potential to save millions of pets’ lives,” the ad said. “Pets make a difference in your life. You can make a difference in theirs.”

The ad is scheduled to air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl on February 2.

“We wanted to use the biggest stage possible to highlight Scout’s story and these incredible breakthroughs, which are not just limited to helping dogs and pets,” Mr MacNeil said.

“This research will help advance cancer treatments for humans as well, so there’s the potential to save millions of lives of all species.”
