An Instagram video that captures a timid rescue cat’s transformation after settling into its forever home has warmed hearts across the internet.

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 404,000 times since it was first shared to Instagram by user @tako_greytuxedocat on January 21, details how Tako the cat who suffers from “trauma” has been adapting to his new environment.

The video chronicles Tako’s first few days with his new family, which saw him go from hiding under chairs and beds due to feeling “overwhelmed” to gradually coming out and exploring the house at night while his owners slept.

By the end of the clip, Tako was seen eating and playing confidently in the house, and had forged a close bond with his new owners.

“My name is Tako. I’m a rescued cat from Kitten Rescue Australia. I stayed there for a while but now I have a new home and new parents. I was suffering from trauma but my parents are establishing a new calm environment with lots of love for me,” the feline’s owners captioned the post.

“It will take sometime for me to trust humans again but soon enough I’m gonna be their purrfect feline companion,” they added.

Newsweek reached out to @tako_greytuxedocat for more information via Instagram.

Kitten Rescue Australia is a nonprofit organization based in Sydney that works to rescue and rehome kittens. It is unclear what Tako had suffered before being taken into the care of Kitten Rescue.
